About this plugin
The FET-A78 is Antelope Audio's plugin emulation of the classic hardware peak limiter that defined compression aesthetics across decades of pop and rock production. Built on authentic FET (field-effect transistor) circuit modeling, the plugin captures the aggressive, transparent character that made the original hardware indispensable in professional studios.
The core appeal lies in its sonic signature: tight, musical compression that adds presence without obvious artifacts. The FET topology allows for extreme gain reduction while maintaining clarity, a quality rarely achieved in digital domain. The plugin operates in stereo with matched limiters ensuring consistent channel balance, and its four ratio modes provide flexibility from subtle leveling to brick-wall limiting.

Sonically, the FET-A78 excels on sources requiring definition and punch. It's particularly effective on drums, where its fast attack maintains transient articulation while gluing the kit together. Bass benefits from its ability to control dynamics without sacrificing tone. Vocals sit forward in a mix when processed here, gaining cohesion across dynamic passages. It works equally well across full mixes, functioning as a transparent bus compressor or as an aggressive mastering limiter depending on parameter choices.
For producers and engineers accustomed to hardware compression, this emulation delivers familiar workflow and results. It's an essential tool for anyone pursuing vintage-inflected production aesthetics or requiring transparent dynamic control. In an era of countless compression plugins, the FET-A78 occupies a distinct position: proven sonic architecture with minimal learning curve and consistent, professional results across virtually any material.
