About this plugin
Ample Bass Upright is a sampled virtual instrument that authentically reproduces the acoustic character of a classic upright bass, capturing the warm fundamentals and organic sustain that define the instrument's role in jazz, blues, and soul music. Recorded with multiple microphone positions plus direct input, the plugin delivers genuine tonal depth without sacrificing the tight, controlled response modern production demands.
The instrument excels through its purposefully designed fretless legato engine, which handles polyphonic slide transitions with natural fluidity. The slide system responds to velocity and timing nuance, while a dedicated smoother manages pitch transitions down to D1 for extended range work. Thirteen articulations span natural playing techniques including slap, pop, tap, and harmonics, giving producers genuine expressive range rather than superficial variation.

Ample Sound's Riffer 4 interface streamlines workflow with dual MIDI editing views and intelligent string visualization that simplifies complex fingering decisions. Tab Reader 4 integrates Guitar Pro file compatibility, while a substantial riff library provides starting points for rapid composition. The chord system, redesigned specifically for non-strumming instruments, handles voicing intelligently without awkward overtones.
Signal processing remains practical: three amp models and four cabinet options with multiple microphone selections cover tonal territory from intimate to aggressive, while the built-in effects chain - featuring EQ, compression, delay, and convolution reverb - handles final shaping without requiring external processing.
This plugin serves producers and composers seeking authentic upright bass textures without session musician logistics, particularly those working in jazz-influenced, hip-hop, and soul-derived genres where the instrument's particular resonance matters.
