About this plugin
Strike 2 is AIR Music Technology's second-generation drum plugin, building on the foundational architecture of the original while refining its real-time performance engine and expanding its sonic palette. The plugin combines algorithmic drum synthesis with a curated sample library recorded at Nashville's Blackbird Studios, allowing producers to generate drum tracks with organic variation rather than relying on static sample playback.
The core strength lies in its performance modeling system, which simulates how drummers naturally vary timing, dynamics, and intensity across a pattern. Rather than triggering velocity layers, Strike 2 uses continuous parameter modulation to create smooth transitions between playing styles. This approach eliminates the quantized, mechanical quality that plagues conventional drum machines. The plugin accepts intuitive performance parameters - intensity, complexity, timing offset, and groove feel - that control behavior in real time or via automation.

Technically, Strike 2 processes individually recorded drum elements captured with multiple microphones per kit, providing granular mixing control through an integrated console with parallel compression, EQ, and reverb. This architecture gives producers the flexibility to shape individual instruments or blend cohesive kit sounds.
The plugin best serves producers and engineers seeking authentic drum performances without extensive MIDI programming or session drummer budgets. It excels in pop, rock, and rhythm-driven genres where human feel matters but sample authenticity is paramount. Compared to alternatives like Superior Drummer or BFD, Strike 2 prioritizes real-time parameter control and algorithmic variation over vast sample libraries, making it ideal for producers who want responsive, dynamic drum tracks rather than exhaustive customization options.
